The CCE Nassau County Board of Directors enthusiastically announces the appointment of Sunday F. Coward as their new Executive Director. Sunday has been a passionate advocate for education, equity, and opportunity for students throughout her 25 years of leadership experience in higher education and community development. Sunday has managed multimillion-dollar portfolios, designed innovative programs, and inspired teams to achieve ambitious goals.
Sunday has had the privilege of serving in leadership roles at esteemed institutions of higher education, including Columbia University, Stony Brook University, Johnson C. Smith University, and Hunter College. Through these roles, she has led large scale initiatives, supported students and staff, and fostered cultures of innovation, inclusion, and achievement.
A proud community leader, Sunday also serves as President of the Freeport Board of Education, where she champions transparency, collaboration, and student success. With a Master of Education degree in Higher Education Administration from Teachers College, Columbia University, and extensive expertise in grant writing, strategic planning, and diversity initiatives, Sunday brings a unique blend of vision and practicality to every project she undertakes.
Above all, Sunday finds joy in her family. Her daughter, Melody, a corporate attorney, earned her undergraduate and law degrees from Howard University. Her daughter, Lauren, a tenured high school English teacher, holds two degrees from St. John’s University. Her son, André, is a Dean’s List political science major at Howard University.
