Welcome to the Dorothy P. Flint 4-H Camp

Located on 140 acres along the Long Island Sound in Riverhead, NY, the Dorothy P. Flint 4-H Camp (DPF 4-H Camp) offers co-ed overnight and day camp experiences for youth aged 5-16. Accredited by the American Camp Association and licensed by the Suffolk County Department of Health, DPF 4-H Camp is committed to creating a safe, enriching environment where campers can learn, grow, and make lifelong memories.

At DPF 4-H Camp, we celebrate diversity and provide a nurturing environment for youth and adults to reach their fullest potential as capable, competent, and caring citizens. Whether your child is joining us for a week-long sleepaway adventure or enjoying the excitement of our day camp options, they'll be immersed in a supportive community that values personal growth and fosters lifelong friendships away from common plugged technologies.

Our Mission

Dorothy P. Flint 4-H Camp is grounded in the mission of Cornell Cooperative Extensions: to enable people to improve their lives and communities through partnerships that put experience and research knowledge to work. Extension staff and trained volunteers deliver education programs, conduct applied research, and encourage community collaborations.

At camp, this mission translates into programs that emphasize learning by doing. Our 4-H educational programs are designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and a love for learning in our natural world, ensuring that each camper's experience is not only fun but also enriching. Guided by the values of leadership, community, and stewardship, DPF 4-H Camp empowers youth to grow into engaged, capable individuals, ready to meet life’s challenges.

Our History

Founded in 1924 by Dorothy P. Flint, a visionary 4-H agent, the camp began as a small tent program along Lake Panamoqua. Over the years, her program expanded, relocating to Wildwood State Park in 1928 before finding its permanent home on Sound Avenue. What began as 40 acres has expanded to 140 acres of farmland, woodlands, and beachfront, making DPF 4-H Camp the oldest 4-H camp in New York State.

Today, DPF 4-H Camp remains rooted in its rich history while continuing to evolve to meet the needs of new generations of campers. From its early beginnings to its current role as a leader in youth development, the camp has always prioritized providing a safe space for learning, leadership, and fun.

Explore Our Facilities

Our 140-acre property offers a variety of facilities and natural spaces designed to create unforgettable experiences for campers. Highlights include:

• A 40-acre working farm with animals, flowers, and vegetables.
• A waterfront on the Long Island Sound for swimming and water activities.
• Ropes courses with low elements, high elements, a rock wall, and a zipline.
• Sports fields and courts for basketball, baseball, and tennis.
• A nature and science center, craft shelters, and an indoor horseback riding arena nestled in acres of woodlands.

Virtual and In Person Open House Tours

Join us for a virtual open house to learn more about the Dorothy P. Flint 4-H Camp for Summer 2025. In each session we will take you on a virtual tour and answer questions about our resident and day camp options.

Virtual Open House will start at 4:00pm. There will be opportunity to answer all questions. Session will end when there are no more questions.

A Zoom invite will be sent before your scheduled appointment.

Want to see the camp in person? Come to our In-Person open house on the following dates.
No registration is required.

The In-Person Open House will run from 10:00am to 2:00pm

Community Clean Up Days

Have you ever wanted to come to camp and lend a hand? Try a community clean-up day. Each with a general theme so you can select how you would like to help.

Community Clean Up Days will run from 10:00am to 2:00pm (no registration required).
