SNAP-Ed Nutrition Educator

Location: East Meadow, NY

Position Summary:

This Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Nutrition Education and Obesity Prevention (SNAP-Ed) Nutrition Educator will primarily be responsible for the delivery of established SNAP-Ed public education programming to improve healthy food and lifestyle choices among families and individuals encompassing all age groups throughout the Long Island SNAP-Ed Region and Nassau County. This position will be based in the CCE Nassau County office. Traveling between Nassau County partnered locations and Suffolk County partnered locations on a daily basis will be required. This position will also include assisting with marketing efforts for SNAP-Ed programming in collaboration with other Nutrition Educators in the SNAP-Ed region.

This is a 1.0 FTE grant-funded position. Funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) program is through the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and administered by the Federal Food and Nutrition Services (FNS).

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree in the field of Nutrition, Health Education or Public Health or equivalent education (GED/High School Diploma and one (1) year transferrable program/functional experience).
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
  • Ability to flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
  • Ability to transport/move supplies and equipment, climb stairs with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read and write proficiently) in English.
  • Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read and write proficiently) in Spanish and/or Haitian-Creole.
  • Ability to present effective educational lessons to target audiences and work with diverse audiences of all ages.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic computer and word processing skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with the community in which the work will take place and ability to utilize program resources within the community.
  • Familiarity with purchasing and preparing foods.
  • Familiarity with reviewing and following recipes and assure compliance to federal and state guidelines.
  • Ability to plan and organize personal work responsibilities according to priorities developed with the immediate supervisor.

POSITION DETAILS:

Two positions available. These positions are full-time, non-exempt positions, 40 hours per week. The hourly rate for these positions is $25.00. This position, based on eligibility, offers a comprehensive benefit package, to include: health and dental insurance, NYS retirement, vacation and sick leave.
