Facilities Coordinator

Location: Riverhead, NY

Position Summary:

This position will serve as the Facilities Coordinator for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Nassau County and under the general supervision of the Association Camp Team Leader and Maintenance Supervisor, the Facilities Coordinator has the primary responsibility for cleaning and maintaining the Association’s grounds and physical facilities at the DPF 4-H Camp, and will provide support to ensure the safety of staff, volunteers, participants, and the public. It is the role of this position to follow daily, weekly and monthly cleaning and maintenance schedules for the grounds and physical facilities at the DPF 4-H Camp including, but not limited to: office areas, kitchen, dining hall, bunk houses, bath houses, educational classrooms, farm, storage areas, entrances, etc. The Facilities Coordinator may be asked to assist with mowing; snow removal; repairs, painting; set-up and breakdown for meetings and/or events; and coordinating facility needs with the Camp Team Leader, Maintenance Supervisor, and/or designated staff. Will assist the Association in ensuring OSHA/PESHA safety regulations are followed. This position will represent Cornell Cooperative Extension and the DPF 4-H Camp to the general public, community leaders and government officials in a professional manner. Will appreciate and embrace diversity in all interactions with clientele, staff, volunteers, and the public.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree or Equivalent Education (High School Diploma/GED and one (1) year transferrable program/functional experience).
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
  • Ability to operate facility equipment, such as a lawn mower, snow blower, etc.
  • Ability to read and understand directions as printed on cleaning compounds and chemicals.
  • Ability to climb ladders and perform custodial/facilities work from heights above floor levels.
  • Ability to do heavy lifting, shovel snow, and carry supplies and equipment. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of cleaning, maintenance, and repair methods, materials, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of care of farm animals and horticulture.
  • Knowledge of building mechanicals and plumbing operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide cleaning, maintenance, and repair work.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and address safety concerns in the work place.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently to initiate, organize, and implement established goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and relate effectively with co-workers, customers, volunteers and community leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through oral, written and visual means.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work within strict timelines.

POSITION DETAILS:

This is a temporary, non-exempt, part-time position, 47.5% FTE, up to 19 hours per week. The hourly rate for this position ranges from $18.00-$20.00 per hour depending upon experience. This position, based on eligibility, offers enrollment for the NYS retirement.
