Life At Camp

Each day at camp invites new adventures, challenges, and fun. Each week we have new and returning campers join our camp family. Since we enroll on a weekly basis, there are campers returning week to week but there are always new fresh faces to meet! We foster a welcoming and warm community so all will feel at home. Each week campers have a wide variety of class selections each week to choose from. You can see examples of what we offer here.

All this as we strive to ensure your campers safety and fun, make the best better, and make memories that last a lifetime.

Here are some thing you should expect at 4-H Camp:

EXPECT FUN, RUSTIC ACCOMMODATIONS

Campers are housed in cozy, rustic wood cabins with 8-10 other campers and 2 counselors. There are separate accommodations by gender identity in each division. The cabins are screened, equipped with lights and smoke detectors. Beds and mattresses are provided, but campers must provide their own bedding (see Packing for Camp). Toilets and hot showers are located in wash-houses nearby, there is hot and cold water available.

EXPECT GREAT FOOD AND FUN MEALTIME GATHERINGS

Meals are served family style in Lodge dining hall. Food is plentiful, prepared fresh daily, and there are always additional choices at our breakfast or salad bar. Vegetarian options are available during every meal, upon request. In order to ensure we can enjoy our mealtime together, campers are asked to behave appropriately during meal times and to help clean-up afterwards. Funny poems or group songs may pop-up during mealtime. Our counselors love to celebrate togetherness! You can see our sample menu here.

EXPECT A TRADITIONAL CAMP CANTEEN

The canteen is the “camp store” that campers will visit during assigned times after lunch on Mondays through Fridays. There is no fee for the canteen, and campers are permitted 2 items per day.Examples of items that are available at the canteen include: Water, Juice, Iced Tea, Lemonade, Chips, Cookies, Crackers, Ice Cream and Fruit Snacks.

* Mondays and Saturdays campers and their families can also purchase: hoodies, sweatshirts, sweatpants, night shirts, shorts, water bottles, and other DPF 4-H mementos.

EXPECT TRADITIONAL 4-H ASSEMBLIES AND CEREMONIES

All campers participate in camp assemblies and ceremonies, which are designed to encourage friendship and sharing among new bunk-mates and camp friends. Some of our ceremonies follow traditional 4-H models for civic mindfulness and encourage fun, sharing and thoughtful entertainment among our large camp family. 4-H assemblies include daily 4-H flag-raising /lowering, and weekly bonfires. Some of our ceremonies are inspirational activities that help youth wind-down from their busy camp day, and reflect on the many new experiences they have encountered. These traditions are passed down from 4-H camper to 4-H camper each and become the anchor of our shared memories at camp.

EXPECT AN OUTDOOR CAMP ENVIRONMENT

Since camp is located in the woods, campers should not be surprised to spot the occasional chipmunk under a cabin, or spider in the bathroom.Respect for animals, trees, and our natural environment are important to us here at camp, and part of what we teach our campers during their stay.Be ready to encounter all sorts of nature! Please see our detailed section on Battling Ticks and Mosquitoes for more information on biting insect control at camp.

DO NOT EXPECT RELIGIOUS SERVICES

Although we welcome all religious beliefs we do not offer any religious services at camp.
