Program Details

For Children Ages 5-8 & 9-12

This program places an emphasis on decision-making, allowing each child to contribute to the garden in the process. Children will design, plant and maintain a community garden bed while learning about nutrition, the importance of growing their own food and how a healthy garden functions.

Each week, children will further develop their knowledge and skills as they tend to and explore the inner workings of their garden.

To ensure that each child gets the most out of each experience, children are split into two age groups—5-8 and 9-12. The last two weeks, they will plan to participate in a salad party during which they harvest and eat the lettuce they have grown. Each group meets for 1.5 hours once a week for five total weeks.
