The CALS Alumni Association of Long Island invites you to their annual Fred H. Hicks '62 Memorial Lecture titled "Can We Mine Our Way to Sustainability?"

Sunday, January 29th from 1:00 pm to 2:30pm
Join Buz Barstow, assistant professor, Biological and Environmental Engineering and faculty fellow, Atkinson Center and the Carl Sagan Institute, as he discusses his work in the field of synthetic biology—taking what is already found in nature and developing revolutionary new uses for them. Dr. Barstow is finding innovative ways to create sustainable energy from what we already have in the earth—from metals to microbes—and will provide an engaging introduction to this emerging field, one in which Cornell is taking the lead.
