Taste NY Market Sales Clerk/Ambassador - EMF

Position Summary:

This position will serve as the Taste NY Market Sales Clerk/Ambassador in support of Taste NY operations at East Meadow Farm (EMF) for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Nassau County. Primary responsibilities include selling products, assisting customers in a retail setting, maintaining clean and organized work stations and ensuring a clean guest area. The Taste NY Market Sales Clerk/Ambassador provides information on products sold and local agri-tourism. Anticipates customer and store needs by constantly evaluating the environment and customers for cues. Inspect and maintain the store for cleanliness, organization and restock as needed. The Taste NY Market Sales Clerk/Ambassador is expected to discuss Long Island agriculture and local foods/products with customers and the public by utilizing provided information and engaging them in the areas of local agriculture

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent education.
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.
  • Experience working in customer service and retail environments. 
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position. 
  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, nights and/or holidays.
  • Must be able to lift 20-50 pounds.
  • Ability to complete basic math in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to work with the public in a food service setting.
  • Attention to product rotation detail.
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate a cash register.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with managers and co-workers.
  • Must have a pleasant and helpful disposition with customers and the public. 
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • One (1) year retail experience.
  • Food service training. 
  • Understanding of basic marketing.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Knowledge of the organization, operation, philosophy and objectives of Cooperative Extension.
  • Knowledge of agriculture, agricultural practices and agri-tourism or willingness to learn.
  • Maintains regular and consistent punctuality with or without reasonable accommodations. 
  • Position Details:

    This is a non-exempt, part-time position, 48.75% FTE, 

    Pay Rate Type: Hourly
