Penn Station Taste NY Kiosk Sales Clerk/Ambassador

Position Summary:

This position will serve as the Taste NY Market Sales Clerk/Ambassador in support of Taste NY operations at Penn Station for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Nassau County. Primary responsibilities include assisting customers with purchasing, checking out, maintaining clean and organized work stations and ensuring a clean guest area, while promoting economic development through food and agritourism. Ambassadors provide quality beverages and food products consistently for all customers by adhering to all presentation standards, and follows health safety and sanitation guidelines for all products. Anticipates customer and store needs by constantly evaluating the environment and customers for cues. Inspects the work area for cleanliness, organization and refill supplies as needed. The Ambassador is expected to discuss NY State agriculture and local foods with customers, utilizing provided information and engage them in the areas of local agriculture. Individuals must be able to follow and create already developed coffee recipes. Must have the ability to recommend daily coffee to the customer from the menu list.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent education.
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.
  • Experience working in customer service and retail environments.
  • Ability to meet travel requirements of this position, if needed.
  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, nights and/or holidays.
  • Must be able to lift 20-50 pounds.
  • Ability to complete basic math in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to work with the public in a food service setting.
  • Ability to make correct change of currency.
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate a cash register and Point of Sale (POS) system.
  • Ability to work with the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with managers and co-workers.
  • Attention to product rotation detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree and one year of experience working in customer service and retail environments.
  • Food service training.
  • Understanding of basic marketing.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Knowledge of the organization, operation, philosophy and objectives of Cooperative Extension.
  • Knowledge of agriculture and agricultural practices or willingness to learn.
  • Maintains regular and consistent punctuality with or without reasonable accommodations. 

Position Details:

This is a non-exempt, part-time position, 48.75% FTE, up to 19.5 hours/week. The hourly rate for this position is $19.00 - $22.00 depending upon experience.
