Job Title: LITNY Market Lead Sales Clerk

Location:  LI Welcome Center/ LI Taste NY Store, Exit 52, Long Island Expressway, Dix Hills, NY.

Number of Positions: One

Major Duties of Position:

The LI TNY Market Lead Sales Clerk supports the LI Taste NY Marketplace and Farmers’ Markets and related activities. Primary responsibilities include inventory management, utilizing inventory software and Point of Sale (POS) software, assisting LI TNY Market Manager with staff scheduling, training of newly hired Sales Clerks, assisting with purchasing and concession inventory, maintaining cash banks with LI TNY Market Manager and Assistant Manager, operation of cash register, cash controls, transportation of inventory to the store, customer service, food service and record keeping. Market Lead Sales Clerk must be able to perform all duties of Sales Clerks. The Market Lead Sales Clerk is expected to discuss Long Island agriculture and local foods with customers to engage them in these areas and to provide information upon request about the food and farm products sold in the store.

Qualifications and Experience Pre-requisites:

  • Associates Degree or High School Diploma/GED and one year of relevant experience.
  • 2 years retail sales experience.
  • Ability to complete basic math in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to work with the public.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate a cash register.
  • Ability to learn and use Point of Sale System; 
  • Ability to manage sales clerk staff and purchase concession items, consumables and janitorial goods.
  • Ability to use or learn to use MS Word and Excel
  • Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
  • Ability to meet acceptable background check standards.
  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.


  • Microsoft Office proficiency (especially Excel)
  • Experience working in customer service and retail environments.
  • Understanding of basic marketing.
  • Financial accounting and order tracking.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Proficiency with internet based communications.
  • Knowledge of the organization, operation, philosophy and objectives of Cooperative Extension.
  • Knowledge of agriculture and agricultural practices.
