LI TNY Market Vendor Coordinator

Location:  Dix Hills, NY

Position Summary:

This position will serve as the Long Island Taste New York Market Vendor Coordinator for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Nassau County. The LI TNY Market Vendor Coordinator supports the Taste NY Market at the Long Island Welcome Center, Farmers’ Markets and other related activities. Primary responsibilities include ensuring the LI TNY store is operating smoothly, including inventory management, assisting customers in a food service setting, assisting with self -serve check out, maintaining clean and organized work stations and ensuring a clean guest area. Knowledge of inventory software and NCR POS software, assisting Shift Supervisor with staff scheduling, training of newly hired Sales Clerks, assisting with purchasing and concession inventory. Must be able to assist when needed in maintaining cash banks with Shift Supervisor, Market Manager and Assistant Manager, operation of cash register, cash controls, inventory, and transport to the store, customer service, food service and record keeping. Must be able to perform all duties of Sales Clerks. This position is expected to discuss NYS agriculture and local food products with customers to engage them in these areas and to provide information upon request about the food and farm products sold in the store. Must follow health safety and sanitation guidelines for all products. Anticipates customer and store needs by constantly evaluating environment and customers for cues. Inspect the store for cleanliness and organization as needed. Must possess the ability to communicate effectively with managers and co-workers. Must be able to follow and create already developed coffee recipes. Must have the ability to recommend daily coffee choices to the customer from the menu list.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree or Equivalent Education (High School Diploma/GED and one (1) year transferrable program/functional experience).
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position to include two (2) years retail sales experience.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
  • Ability to meet acceptable background check standards, if required (DMV and Criminal Background Checks).
  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
  • Ability to complete basic math in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to work with the public.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate a cash register.
  • Ability to learn and use Fishbowl Inventory and Point of Sale System.
  • Ability to manage sales clerk staff and purchase concession items, consumables and janitorial goods.
  • Ability to use or learn to use Microsoft Word and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Microsoft Office proficiency (especially Excel).
  • Experience working in customer service and retail environments.
  • Understanding of basic marketing.
  • Financial accounting and order tracking.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Proficiency with internet based communications.
  • Knowledge of the organization, operation, philosophy and objectives of Cornell Cooperative Extension.
  • Knowledge of agriculture and agricultural practices.


This is a non-exempt, part-time position, 62.5% FTE, 25 hours/week.
