Food Systems Educator

Location: Dix Hills, NY.

Position Summary:

This position will serve as the Food Systems Educator for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Nassau County. This position will implement public education to help improve healthy food, lifestyle, and vendor product choices for all age groups. This position will also be responsible for aiding in the Food Systems Educational program under Taste NY. This includes, but is not limited to: Farmer Involvement; Promoting Awareness; Workshops; and Modeling Mission of TNY; and assisting with Social Media Management. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent education (GED/High School Diploma and 1 year transferrable program/functional experience).
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with preparing foods/culinary experience.
  • Familiarity with farm to table and food systems.
  • Familiarity with purchasing foods utilizing business expense accounts.
  • Demonstrated ability to speak, read and write proficiently in the Spanish language.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, teach and evaluate informal educational programs through a variety of delivery methods to reach individuals and groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a team member working with volunteers and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through oral, written and visual means.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize computer technologies for educational and communication purposes.


  • There is one (1) position opening. This is a non-exempt, temporary part-time position, 17.5% FTE, 6 hours per week. 

Pay Rate Type: Hourly
