Community Nutrition Educator

Location: Jericho, NY

Position Summary:

Implement Cornell Cooperative Extension of Nassau County (CCE-NC) public education programs to help improve healthy food and lifestyle choices for all age groups. This includes presenting classes and workshops that focus on general nutrition, food preparation, food safety, food preserving and farm to table. These nutrition education programs will take place at various community sites throughout Nassau County and at CCE-NC offices in Suffolk County. Marketing and recruitment of participants for classes is also required as a part of this position. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition, Health Education or Public Health or equivalent education (Associate’s Degree and two years transferrable program/functional experience).
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License.
  • Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
  • Ability to meet acceptable background check standards, if required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Registered Dietitian.
  • Master Food Preserver certification.
  • Familiarity with preparing foods/culinary experience.
  • Familiarity with farm to table and food systems.
  • Familiarity with purchasing foods utilizing business expense accounts.
  • Demonstrated ability to speak, read and write proficiently in the Spanish language.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, teach and evaluate informal educational programs through a variety of delivery methods to reach individuals and groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a team member working with volunteers and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through oral, written and visual means.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize computer technologies for educational and communication purposes.

POSITION DETAILS:

This is a non-exempt, part-time position, 25 hours per week position. 

Pay Rate Type: Hourly
