Position Summary:

The 4-H Youth Development Team Leader will lead the planning, management, development, implementation and evaluation of Dorothy P. Flint 4-H Camp educational programs. Responsibilities include direct administration and supervision of camp staff, campers, management of daily logistics, and operations of the summer camp program ensuring the health and safety of staff and campers at all times. The educator develops leadership skills and engagement in counselors/camp staff and volunteers for leveraging the impact of the program with youth, families, and communities. In addition to seasonal camp responsibilities this position will also serve as a member of the overall 4-H Youth Development team to collaborate with planning, development, implementation and evaluation of the 4-H Youth Development program specifically focused on program objectives and plans in areas of 4-H afterschool clubs and Agriculture in the Classroom.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in camp administration, youth development, education or related educational field.
  • 2 years volunteer or related work experience.
  • Ability to meet acceptable background check standards including successfully passing Department of Health Central Register Database.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to live on camp property during camp season.
  • Per the New York State Department of health, Must be over the age of 25.
  • Knowledge of the American Camp Association guidelines and standards.
  • Ability to work flexible hours which will include evenings and/or weekends.
  • Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read and write proficiently) in English.
  • Ability to transport/move supplies and equipment, climb stairs with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to walk over rough, uneven or rocky surfaces that are part of the camp grounds “flooring”
  • Ability to work long hours, in an outdoor setting, requiring regular physical activity as well as standing and sitting for long periods.
  • Outstanding communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to plan, originate, organize, and carry out daily and special programs with minimal supervision.
  • Experience managing staff and creating age appropriate lesson plans in a wide range of instructional areas such as physical education, art, theatre and academic enrichment.
  • Demonstrated experience in effective supervision and management with ability to supervise, train and motivate staff of all ages and levels of experience.
  • Ability to interact with camp families and the general public in a professional manner at all times.


  • Experience with Cooperative Extension or other similar educational organizations.
  • Knowledge of NYS Health Department regulations.
  • Current American Red Cross certification in First Aid / CPR / AED and/or EMT.
  • Excellent understanding of Environmental/Conservation/ Outdoor Recreation Education.
  • Strong teaching skills and group facilitation skills.
  • Lifeguard Certifications and certification as a Lifeguarding instructor and ability to certify others.

Other: PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities
