A 5-Hour Beekeeping Introductory Seminar

Everything you need to learn to be a successful beekeeper is already at your fingertips. There are terrific books (including the book you get after you register for this seminar), and the Internet is overflowing with videos, data and ways to buy stuff.

So why are we offering this seminar? It’s faster and easier to become a good beekeeper when you study with experienced beekeepers. Here’s your chance to study with an experienced beekeeper. This is only an introduction. You will NOT be a beekeeper when this seminar is over. But, it will help you decide if you’re ready to make the commitments necessary to become a beekeeper.

How will the seminar go? This seminar is meant for people who have thought enough about becoming a beekeeper to have figured out that husbanding those honey bees, is something they might want to commit to learning. That’s why you’ll get the text a couple of weeks before we meet. This book is a highly regarded beginners’ guide and an excellent first book for the library of any beekeeper. We will be referring to it. Reviewing it will give you a basis to ask questions and give you a hook to hang a lot of what I’ll be talking about on, but the seminar will not follow it, directly, or cover it completely. That would take months!

There will be opportunities to see and handle most of the equipment you’ll need to use as a beekeeper if you follow through and take the plunge. You should come away with a good understanding of what you’ll need to buy and how to choose among many options you’ll have. And if you’re lucky and all goes well and the weather cooperates, maybe meet a few of the girls (honey bees, that is, I promise that there will be NO male honey bees around). - Carl the Beekeeper
