Bulb Planting Demonstration at EMF

  • Tuesday, December 12, 2017, 8:15 AM - 11:15 AM

On Tuesday morning, December 12th, at 8:30 am, William Miller, Professor of Horticulture, School of Integrative Plant Science, Cornell University, and Richard Weir will be demonstrating automated bulb planting at EMF.

Bill Miller, (Director of Graduate Studies, Horticulture/Director, Flower Bulb Research Program) who has done extensive research regarding bulbs, received, as a donation, an innovative mechanical bulb planting machine from the Netherlands. This machine has the ability to plant bulbs en masse in large, rough-turfed areas. It opens the sod, deposits the bulbs, and re positions the sod in such a way that is transparent. Please access the below link for more information and a short video:

Although we do not have a mass area for planting, as the farm is already occupied by our magnificent demonstration gardens, Professor Miller has chosen two areas in the garden to demonstrate the process.

We are very excited to be part of this demonstration on Long Island that will also include Hicks and Hofstra University.

Please join us at EMF for this demonstration, coffee and bagels will be provided.

As the planting window will be a short one, please plan on arriving no later than 8:15.

Anticipating a good turnout we would ask that you park on Luddington Road to avoid crowding the parking lot or obstructing access to the garden for the equipment needed for this planting.

Thank you, hope you can join us!
