I am writing as a volunteer and alumna of the Dorothy P. Flint Nassau County 4-H Camp with an opportunity to support enrichment and outdoor learning experiences for children across Long Island. DPF 4-H Camp is a 140 acre co-ed sleepaway camp for kids ages 8-16 located on the Long Island Sound in Riverhead, NY with a fully equipped working farm, equestrian program, high ropes course and acres of woods and waterfront land. Being one of the oldest 4-H camps in the state, they are dedicated to ensuring children's safety and fun while offering high quality educational programs, all in an environment that allows for personal growth in which diverse youth and adults reach their fullest potential as capable, competent, and caring citizens. DPF 4-H Camp, part of Cornell Cooperative Extension, is a non-profit organization that has changed the lives of many Long Islanders, including hundreds of children who attend camp on scholarship who could not otherwise afford the experience.
Our father Peter Sobey was lucky enough to attend camp as a child, work there as an adult, and pass on this beautiful camp to his 13 children. My siblings and I all attended as campers as well as many of Peter's grandchildren now attending and working there as well. Sadly, our father passed away last year (before which, he was the oldest living camper alumni), and our family would like to give back to the camp in his honor. He taught archery for many years, one of the most popular classes and unique experiences for campers. The 4-H Camp staff has requested a new shed to be able to store archery equipment, which would allow them to expand this enrichment program. They are looking for a wooden shed that is 8 feet x 8 feet x 6 feet. We are planning a social media campaign that will be seen by thousands of people to raise funds for the archery equipment, and the shed donor will be recognized across our social media platforms and by the camp at an upcoming alumni event. The donation is also tax deductible.
Thank you for considering this request to bring joyful summer experiences to children for decades to come by donating a shed to the DPF 4-H Camp.
